Welcome to TypoTrawler!
To begin, please choose your local eBay site. However, if this is your first visit please read the introduction below before proceeding... it'll help you get to grips with TypoTrawler.
Introduction
The on-screen help
Once you've selected your country and categories to trawl, a handy button
will appear on the top right called 'View on screen Help'. Give it
a click and it will guide you through everything on the screen.
Why Typos?
Many listings on eBay are misspelled. For example, the title may contain
'latop' instead of the intended 'laptop'. This dramatically reduces
the number of people who visit the auction for the 'latop' as everyone
is searching for the correctly spelled 'laptop'. With less people
viewing the item, less bids are made, so the price remains low. Therefore,
by searching for these misspelled items, TypoTrawler allows you to
find bargains on eBay.
But this has been done before...
Yes it has. But TypoTrawler does it better. Services like our sister
site TypoTracker are
great if you're looking for a specific item, but if you're just looking
for a great deal on whatever you can find, it's not very effective.
After about 15 minutes you're out of ideas for things to search for...
this is where TypoTrawler steps in. Our robot minions relentlessly trawl
through eBay day and night picking out misspelled items. We then display
them in a handy list so you can watch the bargains literally flow down
the screen!
OK, so what are these thumbs I see next to each item?
This is the most important part of TypoTrawler! The users
influence the content that is displayed on TypoTrawler by voting on
which items are poorly spelled (and result in a bargain!) and which
items our robots shouldn't have bothered showing you. Remember, they
aren't perfect. So give a thumbs up if you spot an item which is badly
spelled (and was a good catch by our robots!) and a thumbs down if
it's correctly spelled (and you don't want to see it again). That way
they can learn what to pick out and what to ignore... there are a lot
of abbreviations and colloquialisms on eBay which our 'bots aren't smart
enough to pick out. So let them know!
If your thirst for knowledge has not yet been quenched, please read the FAQ.
